The Royal Opera House of Cairo, built to celebrate the opening of the Suez Canal was opened in 1869.
To plan it were called Italian architects Piero Avoscani and Mario Rossi, specialized in the design of theatrical buildings.
Rigoletto was chosen for the inauguration, but the Royal Opera House of Cairo is famous to have hosted on 24 December 1871, the debut of another famous opera by Verdi: Aida.
The Opera, of course, was commissioned to Verdi precisely because it was represented for the first time in the main theatre of the Egyptian capital.
