The Stage masking has the assignment to delimit the space of the scene from the service areas of the stage that have to stay hidden to the view of the spectator.
Normally it is not illuminated and, when it happens, it doesn't have to reflect the light, but to absorb it.
Besides, it has to have blackout properties, that is to serve as a barrier to any light set behind it (scene lights and lights of the service areas).
It has a decisive influence on the acoustics of the stage and the hall.
It is usually manufactured with black fabrics, that have to be darkening, light absorbing and sound absorbing, like:

CAB - Sound Absorber
COP - Oscurante Spalmato
COS - Oscurante
COT - Oscurante Teatro
CPA - Boccascena
FMB - Macbeth 400
FMI - Macbeth 600
FOT - Otello
FTA - Tancredi 500
FTC - Tancredi 600
FTN - Tancredi 380
